Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark lectures on education rights of minorities in Europe and Sweden
Associate professor, and head of research at Åland Islands Peace Institute, Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark, will give an open lecture Tuesday, April 26th, titled "Education rights of minorities - how are they implemented today around Europe and in Sweden?".

This year (2016) notes the twentieth anniversary of the OSCE Hague Recommendations Regarding the Education Rights of National Minorities and the tenth anniversary since the adoption of the Council of Europe Thematic Commentary on Education under the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. Spiliopoulou Åkermark will discuss how the understanding of minority education has evolved in these past twenty years, and what the situation looks like 'on the ground'. She will start off from research results presented in the new book Towards Openly Multilingual Policies and Practices - Assessing Language Minority Maintenance Across Europe (Multilingual Matters, March 2016).
