International mini-symposium on International Law before the Public-Private Relation

Welcome to a minisymposium in international law on the topic of International Law before the Public-Private Relation. The aim of the minisymposium is to discuss various aspects of the relationships between the private and the public institutional dimensions in relation to international law, international organisations and institutions.

Keynote speakers:
Prof. Samantha Besson (Collège de France): “What can International Law do against Privatization?”
Prof. Jan Klabbers (Helsingfors): “The Vacuum Assumption in the Law of International Organizations”.

The keynotes will be followed by reflections by invited discussants and a Q&A session.

Samantha Besson is one of the world’s most renowned international lawyers. Currently she holds the position as Chair “Droit international des institutions” at the Collège de France (Paris). Samantha Besson’s research interests lie at the intersection of general international law, European Union institutional law and legal philosophy.

Jan Klabbers is Professor of International Law at the University of Helsinki. He is considered to be one of the world's leading experts in the law of treaties and the law of international organizations. He is the author of several books, most recently Virtue in Global Governance: Judgment and Discretion (Cambridge University Press 2022). Currently, he is mostly working on the ERC-funded project PRIVIGO: International Organizations between Mission and Market.

The minisymposium is jointly organized by The Swedish Institute of International Law (SIFIR), the Uppsala Forum for Democracy, Peace and Justice, the Department of Law and the Department of Philosophy, Uppsala University.
