WOMHER Welcomes our new Visiting Professor Eileen Lueders

Eileen Lueders is a world-leading neuroscientist and active at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Now, she has been appointed Visiting Professor at 20 per cent for three years at the Department of Women's and Children's Health.

Eileen Lueder's expertise is in structural brain imaging, and before moving to New Zealand, she worked in prestigious research groups at UCLA for more than 15 years. She has published more than 100 scientific articles, many of them in journals with high scientific value. In addition to her extensive knowledge of research methods, several of which are patented, she has a far-reaching interest in how sex hormones shape and affect the human brain. She has investigated structural differences in men's and women's brains and changes in relation to the menstrual cycle and childbirth. Lueders has also received funding from the NIH for a project on children born with unclear gender. In addition, she is a leader in an international consortium, ENIGMA, which brings together researchers in the field of gender dysphoria from 11 countries, intended to create a brain imaging database with more than 800 studies.

In addition to methods and subject knowledge relevant to WOMHER, she is an important partner for many research groups in the network. The fine resolution she has developed for certain brain structures is an extremely valuable complement to the methods we already master at Uppsala university, and they will facilitate translational neurobiological studies within WOMHER. The Visting Professor's broad, international network in brain imaging can strengthen Uppsala University's position in the international arena, and she will be an important partner in scientific projects for many research groups in all of the university's disciplinary domains. Eileen Lueders will participate in the PhD courses already planned within the framework of WOMHER, and her sientific knowledge can be used regularly for WOMHER seminars and symposia.
