BUP National Centre selected in Estonia
The BUP International Board has now selected a National Centre in Estonia. After a thorough process Tallinn University was given a renewed mandate to host the National Centre. A new Centre Director, Katrin Männik, will be in charge.
The Baltic University Programme (BUP) has ten National Centres, each under the leadership of a Centre Director. The National Centre is a point of contact for teachers, researchers and students in the respective country as well as being in charge of the BUP Presidency and national meetings. The Centre Directors gather twice a year to discuss and coordinate their activities.
The BUP International Board has decided to appoint Tallinn University to host the National Centre in Estonia.

National Centre in Estonia
The BUP Estonian National Centre is located at Tallinn University, Tallinn.
The university has a history dating back to 1919 when The Tallinn Teachers’ Seminar was established. Tallinn University was founded in 2005 when the Estonian Institute of Humanities, Tallinn Pedagogical University and the Estonian Academy of Science Institute of History were merged. The university has 7 academic units, 104 study programmes, about 7000 students and 1000 full-time employees.
Tallinn University is a modern and dynamic research university in Estonia with a leading role in promoting an intelligent lifestyle through education, research, and a unique collaboration across disciplines. We view an intelligent lifestyle as making research-based decisions in order to improve society in general and the well-being of its citizens.
The university aims to support the sustainable development of Estonia through high-quality research, studies and creative work, public discussion, entrepreneurship, cooperation with the public and third sector, and promotion of academic partnership.

The colleagues at the National Centre were asked why they applied to become a BUP National Centre and what they are looking forward to with becoming the BUP National Centre in Estonia:
”Tallinn University recognises the increasing role of universities in shaping students’ pathways and applying research results to support sustainable development. Regional collaboration between universities within the BUP is extremely important for better preparing for future crises and overcoming current geopolitical challenges. We are excited to lead BUP activities in Estonia and warmly invite all universities to join the network and contribute to joint actions within the BUP.”
”We look forward to being an active member of the BUP by fostering new collaborations and promoting current BUP activities both in Estonia and beyond. We warmly welcome the BUP students and Centre Directors to Estonia in April and May for the BUP Student Conference and Centre Directors meeting respectively. There are also promising opportunities for collaboration with the newly established research group on sustainable futures—the ERA Chair in Sustainable Futures—as well as with the European University Continuing Education Network (EUCEN).”
