The fifth edition of the Master Thesis Training (MTT) will take place on 14-17 April in Uppsala. The event is an opportunity for students to gain additional supervision from an expert, expand their presentation and research skills, as well as develop connections with students from all around the Baltic Sea Region.

The MTT is an opportunity for master students at BUP participating universities to come together in an interdisciplinary and intercultural environment within the sphere of sustainability science.

For this edition, students will have the opportunity to choose a supervisor who will provide them with additional support during a supervision session that will take place at the event. Please note that this supervisor will only provide additional feedback and guidance during the event and does not replace the student’s home university supervisor. A list of potential supervisors, including their background, experience, and research interests, can be found on the Master Thesis Training event page. Students are invited to select their preferred supervisors in the application form. The organisers will then assign supervisors based on availability, demand, and other internal factors.

The event will accept participants from BUP participating universities who are studying towards a master's degree and are working on their thesis during the spring term of 2026. The content of the thesis should be related to sustainability science and include a clear connection to the Baltic Sea Region. The Master Thesis Training will be held mainly on-site in Uppsala. A limited number of online participation spots will be available for students who are unable to travel for exceptional reasons (e.g. priority for online participation will be given to Ukrainian male students who can't travel).

Objectives of the training:

  • Provide students with the opportunity to receive constructive feedback on their thesis from an expert supervisor and from peers from different BUP participating universities.
  • Offer students the space to meet and discuss scientific problems with a focus on sustainability in an interdisciplinary and regional context.
  • Create a space for students to connect with peers in similar stages of their thesis process and to learn about the scientific traditions and academic cultures of other universities.
  • Enhance key skills related to thesis work, including academic writing, presentation, time management, research, critical thinking, and the use of AI.
  • Encourage academic cooperation and networking among students and supervisors within the BUP community.

The application deadline is 8 February 2026, 23:59 (CET).
