Armel Cornu

I graduated with a doctorate from Uppsala University in 2022. My research concerns the intersections of science, commerce, and state in eighteenth-century France. I have adopted a primarily social lens to the understanding of Enlightenment chemistry, in order to better understand the mineral water trade, and the sensorial aspects of the New Chemistry. My current research project investigates the relation between Swedish copper, the chemistry of metals, and the French Atlantic trade.
