Short presentation
I am Mark, a second-year industrial PhD student under the Jonas Bergquist group, working in collaboration with Fresenius-Kabi, an internationally known pharmaceutical company for parenteral nutrition. I finished my master degree in chemistry here in Uppsala University and obtained another master degree with the University of Tartu, located in Estonia through the Erasmus Mundus Master Programme in Excellence in Analytical Chemistry (EACH).

Biography
I started my career in chemistry as a bachelor student at the University of the Philippines from year 2008 to 2012. I obtained postgraduate units in chemistry as well while working as a laboratory instructor in the same university from 2012 to 2016.
Up to this day, I am still a passionate teacher. I teach some laboratory experiments in the Forensic Science course during the spring (Period 4). It feels so great to share my love of science and chemistry to others and see them become passionate in the subject too.
Research
My current research focuses on method development to assess stability of lipid emulsions used for parenteral nutrition. I am developing and validating methods that will provide more information to the properties of phospholipids, oils, nutrients and the total lipid admixture which will impact critically-ill patients that this study is catered for.
I greatly spend my time on separation and detection methods, such as chromatography (LC, GC and SFC), as well as mass spectrometry (triple quadrupole system, orbitrap, TOF system) which gives me a lot of starting points, more scientific questions and more analytical procedures to develop.
Aside from chromatography and MS techniques, I worked with some other instruments and projects as well, involving some spectroscopic techniques (UV-vis, NMR, ATR-FTIR, AAS, AES), which also generated a published paper when I did an internship at the University of Tartu during summer of 2019.
