Short presentation

Eva Sandstedt, has studied different urban phenomena in modern society. One is the presence of single-living households. She found that single's frequency overrides that of the families in Sweden today. An alternative form of living is co-housing. It is still uncommon but after 2015 its international movement increased. Togetherness is the keyword of this society. - An echo from the 1940's neighborhood planning now obsolete but still to be found in today's "social and cultural sustainability".

Biography

Eva Sandstedt´s academic qualificatiion titles are:

Her academic activity and working was concentrated on research and education; teaching, tuition, assessments of other´s texts and reviewing. Several research projects were implemented and fulfilled in different study-groups with research grants. Contacts with other universities and institutions were taken and interesting cooperation arose with building- and landscape architects, welfare analysts and environmentalists.

Research

The focus of my research is housing, environment and everyday life in Sweden after the WWII. Changes in structure of city and towns and the inhabitants' way of living have empirically been investigated with quantitative and qualitative methods, analysed and interpreted with help of international theories within sociology. Organizing principals and concepts will return in the work as a whole. These are the opposites: private/public, risk/sustainability, belonging/isolation, loneliness/togetherness. Dominant theorists are Jürgen Habermas and Ulrich Beck.

The main themes of research are:

a) The development of small neighborhood units to big districts with motoring and services, A welfare state for families and increasing single living households

b) The entrance of the environmental question in sociology. Indoor diffuse risks as well as mega risks become new research areas

c) The feelings of the common contrary to the private and individual promotes new forms of housing for elderly and young people. Co-housing and Collaborative organisation have got a base of discussion.
