Biography

I am a professor of literature at the Department of Literature and Rhetoric, and Deputy Dean at the Faculty of Arts, with a special responsibility for research and PhD studies.

I received my PhD in 2004 and was promoted to Docent in 2009. I held appointments as a Research Fellow from 2006 to 2008 (funded by the Swedish Research Council), as a Research Fellow at the Swedish Academy from 2009 to 2013 (funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation), and as a Pro Futura Scientia Fellow from 2014 to 2018 (funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond). I have been a research fellow at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study (Uppsala) and at Lichtenberg-Kolleg (Göttingen). I am also:

  • Chair of the Swedish Society for Belles-Lettres (SVS)
  • Member of the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences of Uppsala (KVSU)
  • Member of the Advisory Board of Romantik: Journal for the Study of Romanticisms
  • Member of the Editorial Board of European Journal of Scandinavian Studies
  • Member of the Steering Committee of the Uppsala University Graduate School in Sustainability Studies (GRASS)

My research interests are related to literature from the eighteenth century to the present, including romanticism, poetry, drama, ecocriticism, environmental humanities, travel literature, textual criticism, philology, book history, and media history.

My current research includes a book on ecocriticism and contemporary Swedish poetry. I also investigate transnational dimensions of early nineteenth-century literature, related to Swedish philhellenism, classical reception, travel literature, and intellectual networks.

Among my publications are the books Dramatikern Stagnelius (2004), Textkritisk utgivning (2007), Detta tryckpapperstidevarv: Litterär editionshistoria i Sverige under det långa 1800-talet (2018), and the edited volumes Geschichte der Edition in Skandinavien (ed. with Chistian Janss, 2013), Kladd, utkast, avskrift: Studier av litterära tillkomstprocesser (ed. with Jon Viklund, 2015), and Time and Temporalities in European Travel Writing (ed. with Christina Kullberg, 2021; paperback 2023).

I have been awarded prizes from the Swedish Academy, the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities, and the Royal Society of Humanities in Uppsala.
