Titel: Strings and duality
We will discuss why a theory of quantum gravity is needed and why the physical theories that we have today are not enough. This will lead us to holography, extra dimensions and the beginning of the universe.
Sebastian Sobek
Titel: History of humans and nature: how science motivates climate action
In these times of climate change, it is obvious that humans affect nature. However, we humans have always affected nature, throughout our history. So what is different now? In my talk, I will give some glimpses on major game-changers in the history of humans and nature, and show that the current state of the planet is unique in history. I will also show what science has to say about the future of Earth’s climate, and about the future living conditions of today’s children, illustrating that climate action is needed to protect our societies as much as the environment. Luckily, science does not only alert, it also provides solutions.
