Join us in Uppsala on October 27–28, 2025, for an international symposium exploring the molecular mechanisms of protein synthesis. This two-day event brings together over twenty-five leading scientists from around the world – including Nobel Laureate Joachim Frank – to celebrate the lifelong scientific contributions of Professor Emeritus Måns Ehrenberg and Professor Emeritus Anders Liljas.

Honoring Two Pioneers

This event celebrates two remarkable scientists whose work shaped modern molecular biology:

Måns Ehrenberg – Professor Emeritus at Uppsala University, known for his interdisciplinary research combining physics, biochemistry, biophysics, and mathematics to describe molecular processes such as translation. He played a key role in establishing the Master of Science in Molecular Biotechnology program at Uppsala University and trained many of today’s leading researchers.

Anders Liljas – Professor Emeritus at Lund University (formerly at Uppsala University), a pioneer in structural biology who made the first atomic-level visualization of a ribosomal protein. His contributions laid the groundwork for structural studies of the ribosome.

Both have also served as members of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry (Liljas 2002–2007, Ehrenberg 2008–2010).

About the Symposium

The symposium Mechanisms and Milestones in Translation will be held at Friessalen, EBC, and will feature cutting-edge research talks on translation, ribosome biology, and quantitative approaches to cellular processes.
