The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology hereby invites all interested to a docentship lecture in the subject Molecular Life Sciences.

Chairperson: Professor Filipe Maia
Representative of the Docentship Committee: Professor Eva Lindström

Abstract: In this lecture we will explore how lipids self assemble into bilayers, giving rise to collective properties that drive the behaviour of biological membranes. These membranes define compartments and at the same time enable communication between them, which is the basis of cellular organisation. We will also examine the remarkable variety of biological membranes and how lipid composition tunes specific functions. Finally, we will focus on the key process of membrane fusion and briefly survey one experimental approach to study it.

The lecture is an obligatory teaching test for those applying for admittance as docent and it should be possible for students and others with basic academic education in the relevant field to follow it. The lecture lasts 40-45 minutes with subsequent discussion. The lecture will be given in English.

Welcome!
