The Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory hereby invite all interested to a docentship lecture in the subject of chemistry.

Chairperson: Professor Martin Sahlberg

Representative of the Docentship Committee: Professor Gunnar Westin

Abstract

Perovskites are one of the most ubiquitous and well-studied structures in solid-state chemistry. Their versatile structure and diverse properties have given rise to vast areas of research resulting in over 150,000 manuscripts to date. This lecture will introduce perovskite from its discovery in the Ural Mountains to its place in current day research. I will present the basic Perovskite structure and how its versatility has given rise to a wide range of related structures with a diverse range of properties. An overview of the key properties of Perovskites including ferroelectricity, magnetism, superconductivity and the photovoltaic effect will be presented.

The lecture is an obligatory teaching test for those applying for admittance as docent and it should be possible for students and others with basic academic education in the relevant field to follow it. The lecture lasts 40-45 minutes with subsequent discussion. The lecture will be given in English.

Welcome!
