Electrochemistry Workshop October 2024
The Ångström Electrochemistry Initiative (ÅEI) workhop on "Electrochemistry at central facilities", 24-25 October, 2024, at Ångström Laboratory
About the workshop
The workshop given by the Ångström Electrochemistry Initiative (ÅEI) on "Electrochemistry at central facilities", 24-25 October, 2024, at the Ångström Laboratory, was a highly successful and engaging event. It brought together 65 registered participants, with a daily attendance averaging 30-35, drawing interest from various academic departments and industry sectors. This diverse attendance underscores the broad interest in applying advanced X-ray and neutron techniques to electrochemical research.
Content of the workshop
The workshop featured presentations on the use of X-rays and neutrons in studying batteries, lubrication, corrosion, and catalysis, all driven by electrochemical methods. Additionally, two industrial talks highlighted the WIRA-SET initiative from WISE and efforts to reduce reliance on critical rare materials (CRMs) and eliminate PFAs, emphasizing the commitment to sustainable practices in materials science.
Feedback from participants
Feedback from a closing survey showed an overwhelmingly positive response, with 100% of respondents expressing enjoyment and a strong interest in attending a future, expanded workshop. Beyond selecting a new workshop logo, we collected valuable participant presentations, which are now available upon request.
The workshop clearly demonstrated the high level of enthusiasm and collaboration potential within the field of electrochemistry at central facilities.
Acknowledgements
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Department of Chemistry – Ångström, the Uppsala Center for Photon Science, and the Centre for Neutron Scattering for their financial support. Special thanks also go to Camilla Dann and Ulrika Jansson, whose invaluable organizational assistance contributed greatly to making the workshop an enjoyable and memorable experience.
We look forward to replicating this success in future workshops.
