This workshop proposes “capture” as an anthropological analytic that reorients ethnographic attention to the recursive nature of social processes and relations.
This workshop proposes “capture” as an anthropological analytic that reorients ethnographic attention to the recursive nature of social processes and relations. The 12 papers, ranging from hostage-taking in Amazonia to carbon capture through landgrabs in Bulgaria, and from bureaucratic capture in Brazilian prisons to archaeological lootings in Turkey through the magnetism of place in Ecuador, probe that capture can be a promising entry point for exploring aspects of sociality that extend beyond, and become modified by, the event of capture.
