Welcome to the Two Day Hybrid and Bilingual (French/English) Sahel Symposium hosted by Uppsala University’s Forum for Africa Studies, 16-17 December 2024, Evolutionary Biology Centre (EBC), Zootissalen, Norbyvägen 18C, Uppsala / Institut des Sciences Humaines, Sotuda ACI, Bamako. The 2024 Sahel Symposium will bring together some 20 scholars working in, and on the Sahel with a particular focus on research carried out in Mali. It will be geared towards activities carried out within the programme Perspectives citoyennes des défis de société au Mali funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. The symposium will include the presentation of research results from a series of joint studies, seed money projects, conferencing, and capacity enhancing activities that, taken together, aim to promote citizen perspectives. It will furthermore bring together a Round-table in order to allow for a general reflection on how to take on future research engagements in the Sahel. The Symposium will be in hybrid mode, connecting conference venues at Uppsala University (Sweden), and Institut des Sciences Humaines (Mali).
