Ana Chiritoiu won Best Dissertation Award
Ana Chiritoiu, post-doctoral researcher at the department, has won the Best Dissertation Award at her alma mater the Central European University. The university has also published a longer interview with Ana about her research and fieldwork among Roma in Romania, which we highly recommend for interesting reading. Congratulations Ana!
The thesis "Making Virtue out of Necessity in a Southern Romanian Mahala" is an ethnography of inequality, social order, crime and virtue among a Roma population calling themselves "thieves" ('Rom Čor), in Southern Romania. In the interview, Ana talks about her 1.5 years of fieldwork, including the ethical dilemmas she faced both as a researcher and personally.
