Rob Gess is a vertebrate palaeontologist who studies early vertebrates and Devonian marginal marine ecosystems with focus on South African localities. He has extensively studied the Waterloo Farm Lagerstätte, near Grahamstown, South Africa, which is the only known high-latitude locality producing Devonian tetrapod remains. Rob is an expert in excavating and reconstructing extinct communities surrounding and including early tetrapods.

Dr Rob Gess is Research Associate and leader of the Devonian Ecosystems Project at the Albany Museum in Grahamstown, South Africa. His departmental webpage can be found here
