Jan Dumanski receives research grant from the Swedish Brain Foundation

The Swedish Brain Foundation has decided to grant Jan Dumanski SEK 600 000 for a project about the association between Alzheimer’s disease and loss of chromosome Y.

Loss of chromosome Y (LOY) in the blood occurs in aging men and Jan Dumanski’s research group has previously found that there is an increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease for men with a high number of blood cells with LOY. In the project that has been financed, the researchers will examine whether LOY can be used as a biomarker to predict if there is a risk to develop the disease.

The Swedish Brain Foundation supports research on the brain and its diseases, injuries and disabilities. In this year’s call for applications for funding of research projects, 273 applications were submitted, out of which 98 were granted support.
