Marcia McNutt received honorary doctorate
On 27 January, Professor Marcia McNutt was conferred an honorary doctorate from the Medical and Pharmaceutical Faculties. IGP and Karin Forsberg Nilsson hosted her visit in Uppsala, which also included an honorary doctorate lecture in the Rudbeck Hall on 26 January.
The conferment ceremony was held in the Catherdral where, in addition to Marcia McNutt, 15 other honorary doctors and 61 new doctors were also conferred.
“Marcia McNutt has particularly drawn attention to matters concerning career possibilities for young researchers, and reproducibility and quality of scientific data. We are glad to strengthen our contacts with her, now that she is an honorary doctor. In addition, she has experience in collaboration issues in important societal challenges, which is another reason to increase our interactions with her,” says Karin Forsberg Nilsson.

Professor Marcia McNutt is a geophysicist and since July 2016 President of National Academy of Sciences, where she has been a member since 2005 in the section for geology. Between 2013 and 2016 she was editor-in-chief for the journal Science.
In addition to her outstanding achievements for the scientific community she has during her time at Science been actively involved in the work around the Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists, which is awarded annually by Science and SciLifeLab, with support from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.
