Swedish Research Council grants SEK 6.6 million to Daniel Globisch and Ola Spjuth
Daniel Globisch and Ola Spjuth, researchers at Uppsala University's Faculty of Pharmacy, are granted a total of SEK 6.6 million in the Swedish Research Council's call Natural and engineering sciences. The grants are to be received during 2020–2024.

Daniel Globisch, researcher in Chemical biology for biomarkers, receives SEK 3.2 million for the project Unique chemical biology tools to explore gut microbiome metabolism: Advanced metabolomics for biomarker discovery for pancreatic cancer.
“Our work will focus on the discovery of unknown metabolite markers as the crucial first step towards an improved pancreatic cancer diagnosis. We will utilize and develop unique methodologies at the interface of chemistry and biology to overcome limitations of metabolomics-based biomarker discovery that are also selective investigation of gut microbiota and human host co-metabolism," says Daniel Globisch.
Ola Spjuth, Professor of Pharmaceutical bioinformatics, receives SEK 3.4 million for the project Autonomous phenotypic drug profiling.

"The purpose of our project is to develop an intelligent system for phenotypic cell profiling, being able to autonomously suggest the next most informative experiment, perform it using an automated lab, learn from the results, and repeat. We will apply the developed system to identify novel drug combinations for precision cancer medicine targeting sarcomas," says Ola Spjuth.
Professor Ola Spjuth will also receive an additional SEK 2.28 million to his project Systematic phenotypic profiling of cells in pharmacological safety assessment in the Swedish Research Council's call Medicine and health.
The Swedish Research Council received 1.668 applications in the call Natural and engineering sciences Of these, 324 grants totaling almost SEK 1.1 billion were allocated.
