Title: River discharge monitoring – challenges and opportunities

Date: Wednesday 12 March 2025 kl. 13.15

Location: Småland, Geocentrum

Chairperson: professor Fritjof Fagerlund

Representative of the Docentship Committee: professor Alireza Malehmir

Abstract: River discharge data are fundamental to hydrology: they are the basis for hydrological analyses and theories as well as water resources management for society. At the same time, it can in many locations be challenging to measure discharge reliably with traditional methods. This lecture introduces the challenges that relate to discharge monitoring and discusses the opportunities to improve the monitoring of discharge with new approaches using, for example, cameras and drones.

The lecture is an obligatory teaching test for those applying for admittance as docent and it should be possible for students and others with basic academic education in the relevant field to follow it. The lecture lasts 40-45 minutes with subsequent discussion. The lecture will be given in Swedish.

Welcome!
