The senior Gustaf Adolf Medal is awarded, either in gold or silver, to a person who has been a dean for a very long time, to a head of department who has initiated and presided over particularly significant activities, and to persons who have carried out very significant investigative and similar work of great scope or duration.
This year, the gold medal goes to Ian Snowball, Professor of Quaternary Geology and Head of the Department of Earth Sciences; Eva Tiensuu Janson, Professor of Oncological Endocrinology at the Department of Medical Sciences and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy; Tora Holmberg, Professor of Sociology, former Vice-Chancellor of Humanities and Social Sciences and since March 2025 Vice-Chancellor of Umeå University; and Professor Lars Burman, Professor of Comparative Literature and former Chief Librarian and Head of the University Library.
The older Gustaf Adolf Medal (Hedlinger) is awarded during a ceremony on 9 May in the University House.
