Christopher Barnes awarded the Jan Bergström Prize and Magnus Hellqvist named Geologist of the Year
Christopher Barnes, researcher in the Mineralogy, Petrology and Tectonics programme, has been awarded the Jan Bergström Prize for Young Researchers 2025 for his outstanding studies of the Swedish Caledonides and his innovative work in geochronology. His research has provided new insights into Sweden's tectonic development and combines methodological development with issues of sustainable mineral resource supply.
"Through his strong commitment to Swedish research environments and his exceptional scientific output, Dr. Barnes has become a central figure in Swedish geoscience. Dr. Barnes represents the values that the Jan Bergström Prize seeks to highlight: originality, scientific quality and a lasting contribution to Swedish geology."
Magnus Hellqvist Geologist of the Year 2025
The award ceremony will take place on Friday, 14 November, at a joint award ceremony with the professional association Geosektionen, which this year has named Magnus Hellqvist as Geologist of the Year 2025.
