Professor Alireza Malehmir receives both the Conrad Schlumberger Award and Attractive Innovation Project Award

Professor Alireza Malehmir receives the Conrad Schlumberger Award

Professor Alireza Malehmir receives the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) 2024 Conrad Schlumberger Award, in recognition of his “outstanding contributions to the field of near-surface geoscience and in particular challenges in mineral exploration and CO2 site-characterization geophysics”.

About the Conrad Schlumberger Award

The Conrad Schlumberger Award is presented to a member of European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) who has made an outstanding contribution over a period of time to the scientific and technical advancement of the geosciences, particularly geophysics.

UU Innovation’s Attractive Innovation Project Award

Last week Professor Alireza Malehmir and his team also received UU Innovation’s Attractive Innovation Project Award for the first commercial sale of their novel seismic landstreamer, registered under the SeisMove trademark.

The seismic landstreamer is an innovative solution that features numerous sensors mounted on sleds, which can be connected and towed, for instance, behind a vehicle, often a seismic source. This development addresses the increasing demand for precise ground surveys in urban environments, driven by significant investments in advanced infrastructure projects such as tunneling.

Seismic surveys in cities, tunnels, and mines present particular challenges related to electrical noise and logistical constraints. To overcome these, Professor Malehmir and his team have tested their proprietary landstreamer in various infrastructure projects, including tunneling, CO2 storage, and mining environments. The results indicate significant potential, attracting substantial global interest and leading to commercial sales.
