Gustav Karreskog receives the Wallander Scholarship

The Jan Wallander and Tom Hedelius Foundation and the Tore Browaldh Foundation are awarding the Wallander Scholarship to young prominent doctors who have recently defended their dissertations.

- I am of course very happy and grateful for this opportunity to focus so wholeheartedly on the research that I am passionate about for the next three years. I am also extra grateful that it is at the Department of Economics at Uppsala University that I will do it; a place where I have enjoyed the last six months very much, says Gustav Karreskog.

Gustav conducts theoretical and experimental research on human decision-making in strategic situations. Game theory, the framework used to study strategic situations, is a key tool for modern economic modeling. It is used, for example, to understand employment relations, competition between companies, political struggles for voters and why collaborations and conflicts arise.

A special focus in Gustav's research is on models of bounded rationality, where he studies how people use rules of thumb and learns from previous experiences to make the best possible decisions based on their cognitive abilities. The purpose is to find models that can predict how people will make decisions in different situations and to understand when and why behaviors deviate from perfect rationality.
