Lecture: “Decolonising Literary Studies: Comparative and Historical Perspectives”

Stefan Helgesson is professor of English at Stockholm University and a senior research associate in English at Rhodes University. His research interests include African literature, Brazilian literature, translation theory, temporality and world literature methodologies. He is, most recently, the author of Decolonisations of Literature: Critical Practice in Africa and Brazil after 1945 (2022) and co-author (with Mads Rosendahl Thomsen) of Literature and the World (2020). Earlier works include Transnationalism in Southern African Literature: Modernists, Realists, and the Inequality of Print Culture (2009) and the edited volume (with Pieter Vermeulen) Institutions of World Literature (2016).
