Playing it safe!

During spring 2025 students from the department of Information Technology, Ångström, have been cooperating with the Department of Food Studies, Nutrition and Dietetics (IKV), Uppsala University, to design, develop and implement a learning game. In the frame of their independent project Bachelor’s thesis (3rd year), and as part of their Master's Programme in Computer and Information technology, they have produced the computer game Playing it safe! targeting Home and Consumer students at school. The idea of the game aims at improving the food safety behaviour of school students in Home and Consumer Studies, and was originally proposed by the master student Maja Emilsson while taking the master course Food, health and communication at IKV.

Maja was thereafter supported by Marie Lange who is course director for the Home and Consumer studies courses at IKV. The idea of cooperation was initiated and made possible by Calkin Suero Montero, department of Information Technology, independent project course coordinator, and Ingela Marklinder, course leader for the master course Food, health and communication at IKV. Calkin Suero Montero and Ingela Marklinder met each other at one of the seminars organized by CIRCUS in 2024 – a useful platform for interdisciplinary discussions!
