Morag Ramsey, Uppsala University

Abstract:

At this seminar I will present a draft of the first article from my RJ funded research project, Between life and death: modern use of the intrauterine device (IUD) in Sweden, ca. 1960-1975. The article traces how the reproductive technology went from being a banned device, likened to an abortifacient, to being an increasingly popular contraceptive in the mid-1960s. How did IUDs shift from abortive to contraceptive? And what were the impacts of this transition?
