‘“A Veneer over Savagery”: British Practices of Extreme Violence in China 1900-1901

This presentation will discuss the extreme practices of violence used by British colonial troops in the suppression of the Boxer Uprising in China (1900-1901), exploring the interconnectedness of British practices across imperial spaces, as well as well placing extreme violence within a wider, transnational context.
