Gunilla Enblad receives Forska!Sverige research award
The award recognises Gunilla Enblad’s efforts to understand the biology of cancer diseases and treat them with immunotherapy. It is presented on the Forska!Sverige Day on 23 October.
In 2014, Gunilla Enblad and her colleagues in Uppsala were the first in Europe to treat cancer patients with a type of immunotherapy called CAR-T, which uses the body’s own immune system to fight the disease. As a result, several immunotherapy treatments are now available in Sweden.
“With this award, we want to recognise Gunilla Enblad’s persistent and successful work with new treatment methods, which has created the possibility of treating cancer cases that were previously incurable,” says Anna Nilsson Vindefjärd, Secretary General of Forska!Sverige.
