Elena Kozlova receives research grant from the Swedish National Space Agency
The grant amounts to approximately SEK 5 million and will be used to study the effect of microgravity on stem cells from the nervous system and insulin-producing beta cells.
Elena Kozlova has previously studied how neural stem cells are affected by microgravity when they have been on board the ESS space station. In the currently funded project, she will analyse how neural stem cells and beta cells are affected by simulated microgravity, which can be achieved in the laboratory using equipment where cells or tissue are rapidly rotated in different directions.
