Masood Kamali-Moghaddam is a Professor of Molecular Diagnostics whose research for many years has centred on developing and applying technologies to detect and characterize extracellular vesicles and proteins in cells, tissues, and biofluids. He has pioneered and implemented several innovative variants of the proximity ligation assay (including 4PLA and ExoPLA), a versatile method that enables the detection of molecules at extremely low concentrations across diverse biological matrices.
Alongside his research, Masood Kamali-Moghaddam is deeply engaged in teaching at the department. He serves as Programme Director of the International Master’s Programme in Innovative Medicine, which is jointly organised with universities in Groningen, Heidelberg, and Tartu. He is also Director of the Proteomics Platform at SciLifeLab, where he contributes to advancing proteomics research and technology development.
He is now looking forward to taking on the role of Head of Department at one of Uppsala University’s most accomplished and successful departments.
“It is with great honour that I accept this appointment. I am humbled by the challenges that lie ahead, but I am confident that together we will continue to strengthen our department in every respect – both science and education – and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable, and fairer society,” he says.
