Alavi-Mandell Award to Maryam Oroujeni
IGP researcher Maryam Oroujeni has received the Alavi-Mandell Award for an article published in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine.
She was awarded for the article “Designed Ankyrin Repeat Protein–Mediated Peptide Nucleic Acid–Based Pretargeting: A Proof-of-Principle Study”. The paper describes a modification of molecules called DARPin, which makes it possible to reduce the uptake of DARPin molecules in the kidneys. This creates a potential for using DARPins for radionuclide cancer therapy.
“This is very prestigious award in our field and I am so delighted to receive it for a second time. It is also a great recognition of our work,” says Maryam Oroujeni.

The Alavi-Mandell award is given to individuals who were the first author of a paper published in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine and made a major contribution to the completion of the work. It was established by the families of Dr. Abass Alavi and Dr. Gerald Mandell, to encourage young physicians and scientists to pursue a career in academic and research in nuclear medicine.
