Listen to Marika Nestor talk about targeted drug molecules

In the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) podcast Om Vetenskap, Marika Nestor and Peter Nilsson from Linköping University discuss how drug molecules can find their way directly to diseased cells and how this can be used to treat diseases.

Imagine a drug molecule that goes directly to the diseased cell, instead of spreading throughout the body. More and more research is now focusing on just that, on so-called targeting drug molecules. They can, for example, bind to cancer cells and irradiate them, but can also be used in diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

In the SSF podcast, the researchers discuss how the technology works, how close we are to a breakthrough, and what it could mean for the future of healthcare. The programme is hosted by Sofie Pehrsson, SSF.
