Large grant to IGP researchers from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation

Christer Betsholtz, Lena Claesson-Welsh, Elisabetta Dejana, Taija Mäkinen och Katie Bentley have received 60 million SEK from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. The five-year grant will be used for studies on the role of blood and lymphatic vessels for the formation of edema.

In the project the researchers will study how leakage and drainage of fluids and molecules are controlled in blood and lymphatic vessels. Increased knowledge about the molecular mechanisms behind blood vessel permeability and lymphatic vessel function can be used to develop new therapies for edema in diseases such as cancer and chronic inflammation.
