Discourse Studies and Method course successfully concluded
The doctoral course "Discourse Studies and Method: Using Discourse-Theoretical Analysis and Discursive-Material Analysis" ran for one week at the Department of Informatics and Media, from 6 to 10 February 2017. The course leader and main teacher was Uppsala professor Nico Carpentier.
16 PhD and post-doc researchers participated in the course, five of which were affiliated to the Department itself. Three participants came from other Uppsala University departments and faculties, and two for other Swedish universities. The other participants were affiliated to universities in Belgium, Brazil, Norway, Spain, South Africa/Kenya, and the UK.
The course has a first online phase, as four working groups engaged in extensive preparations and a close reading of the main course textbook ("the discursive-material knot"). During the second phase, which lasted from 6 to 10 February 2017, a series of lectures on discourse studies and method were combined with theoretical, analytical and methodological workshops.
A small number of pictures can be found on the visual archive page of the Phd course, and the original course description can be found at the Discourse Studies and Method doctoral course page.
Nico Carpentier is professor in media and communication studies at the Department of Informatics and Media, Uppsala University.
