Book launch party: Cyprus and its Conflicts

On 11 January 2018, Vaia Doudaki and Nico Carpentier organised a book launch party for “Cyprus and its Conflicts. Representations, Materialities, and Cultures” at the NeMe Arts Centre in Limassol, Cyprus.

During the book launch party, Vaia Doudaki introduced the book, and four authors introduced their book chapters: Christophoros Christophorou, Christiana Karayianni, Dimitra Milioni and Yiannís Christidis. Orestis Tringides, who featured on the cover page of the book, briefly explained the events behind the photograph. Nico Carpentier moderated the talks.

Book description: The Mediterranean island of Cyprus is the site of enduring political, military, and economic conflict. This interdisciplinary collection takes Cyprus as a geographical, cultural and political point of reference for understanding how conflict is mediated, represented, reconstructed, experienced, and transformed. Through methodologically diverse case studies of a wide range of topics — including public art, urban spaces, and print, broadcast and digital media — it assembles an impressively multifaceted perspective, one that provides broad insights into the complex interplay of culture, conflict, and identity.

Introduction: A Multidisciplinary and Multiperspectival Approach to Conflict, by Vaia Doudaki and Nico Carpentier
