Seminar Participation, Active Citizenship and Community Media
On 13 January 2018, Nico Carpentier, professor at the Department of Informatics and Media organised the Seminar "Participation, Active Citizenship and Community Media", in collaboration with the Cypriot cultural NGO NeMe and the Cyprus Community Media Centre.
The seminar was part of Respublika!: A Cypriot community media arts festival, and took place at the NeMe Arts Centre, in Limassol, Cyprus.

The speakers were Bart Cammaerts, associate professor at the Department of Media and Communications of the London School of Economics, on "Power and Pre-Figurative Politics within the Progressive Left"; Vaia Doudaki, associate professor at the Department of Informatics and Media at Uppsala University, on "Street Papers as Spaces of Participation and Inclusion"; Hazal Yolga, researcher for the Cypriot Community Media Research Programme of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) on "Speaking the Unspoken: Challenging Hegemonic Discourses" and Nico Carpentier on "The Discursive-Material Knot, Participation and Community Media Theory". The moderator was Yiannis Christidis, from the Department of Communication and Internet Studies at the Cyprus University of Technology.
