Nico Carpentier holds keynote talk at Famagusta Conference

The keynote talk had the title "Community media, participation & agonism: A natural alliance?" and took place on 8 November 2018 at the 5th International Conference in Communication and Media Studies in Famagusta, Cyprus. This conference was organised by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), and focused this year on the topic of "Think Peace / Talk Peace / Cultivate Peace".

The talk reported on an earlier research project on the Cypriot community media organisation CCMC, and its radio station MYCYradio.

Using this case study, the presentation argued that participatory and agonistic logics can strengthen each other, simultaneously contribution to processes of democratisation and peace-building.

The event was widely covered by the Cypriot press, for instance by Kıbrıs Genç TV.
