Equal opportunities programme proposal: Uppsala University aims for inclusion

Uppsala University has developed a draft Equal Opportunities Programme, which aims to create an inclusive culture where everyone feels welcome and has equal opportunities, regardless of background.

This is seen as a fundamental right and a prerequisite for being a world-leading university. The programme is divided into four areas: inclusive culture, attractive institution, attractive employer and active measures. The proposal will be discussed in open seminars in September 2024, and after the end of the internal consultation on 4 October 2024, any comments will be taken into account before the final decision is taken. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Coco Norén stresses that the programme is an important part of the university's work on equal opportunities.

Åsa Cajander, Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Equal Opportunities and chair of the Advisory Board for Equal Opportunities, says:

– Uppsala University sees equal opportunities as a fundamental right for all. It’s a matter of creating an environment for work and study where everyone feels welcome and has the same opportunities, regardless of background. By promoting equal rights and opportunities, the University will be able to benefit from a broader range of skills and experiences, which in turn will raise the quality of both education and research.
