Eva Darulova at IT-department awarded prestigious ERC Starting Grant for groundbreaking research

The Department of Information Technology is proud to announce that Eva Darulova, Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor at the Division of Computer Science, has been awarded a prestigious ERC Starting Grant. Her pioneering project, which focuses on ‘holistic rigorous numerical verification’, has been recognised for its potential to drive excellence in the field.

The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded 494 Starting Grants to young researchers and academics across Europe, with a total funding of almost €780 million. These grants support ground-breaking research in fields ranging from life and physical sciences to social sciences and humanities. The aim is to help researchers at the start of their careers to launch their own projects, build their teams and realise their most promising ideas.

Uppsala University has two awardees in this context, one of them being Eva Darulova from the Department of Information Technology. She has been awarded a prestigious ERC Starting Grant for her project focusing on new formal verification and debugging techniques for numerical programs with the overall goal to make it easier to write such programs correctly. This grant will enable Eva to enlarge her research team and continue to conduct excellent research in her field.

Facts and figures:

  • The projects will be carried out at universities and research centres in 24 EU Member States and associated countries, including Germany (98 grants), the Netherlands (51), the UK (50), France (49) and Sweden (22, including two from Uppsala University).
  • In total, 3474 proposals were received, of which 14.2% were selected for funding.
  • The grants are expected to create 3 160 jobs within the new research teams' projects.
  • 44% of the grants were awarded to female researchers, an increase from previous years.
  • Researchers come from 51 different nationalities, with Germans (94 researchers), Italians (61), French (44) and Spaniards (36) being the most represented.
