The Department of Information Technology hereby invite all interested to a docentship lecture in the subject Scientific Computing with Specialisation in Numerical Analysis.

Chairperson: Professor Ken Mattsson

Representative of the Docentship Committee: Professor Nataša Sladoje

Abstract: Kernel methods are powerful tools in scientific computing and numerical analysis, with applications ranging from function approximation and numerical solutions of differential equations to probabilistic modeling and machine learning. Central to these applications is the deep connection of kernels to Hilbert spaces. This presentation aims to give an introduction to the use of kernel techniques in these disciplines, with a focus on selected applications and implementations.

The lecture is an obligatory teaching test for those applying for admittance as docent and it should be possible for students and others with basic academic education in the relevant field to follow it. The lecture lasts 40-45 minutes with subsequent discussion.

The lecture will be given in English.Welcome!
