Thomas Schön participating in an interview on the potential and challenges of AI model
Thomas Schön is interviewed in Curie magazine about a new AI model that can distinguish benign tumours from cancer. The AI model has proven to be better than human experts in some areas, but cannot completely replace human expertise, according to the research team behind it.
For AI to be used effectively in research and healthcare, it requires interdisciplinary collaboration, sufficient time and resources, and ethical and responsible use of the technology.
Thomas Schön, Beijer Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the Department of Information Technology, Uppsala university, has led the AI4Research project and emphasises that AI has enormous potential but also major challenges. He emphasises the importance of combining basic and applied research and collaborating with experts from different disciplines to drive AI development forward.
