The Swedish final of EY's global Young Tax Professional of the Year (YTPY) competition was held on 14 March. Liva Bihre was selected as Sweden's top tax law student and will represent Sweden in the global final in early 2025. There she will compete against finalists from around 40 countries around the world. Liva Bihre also wins prize money and an employment contract at EY in Sweden with a flexible start date. In second place was Adina Larsson from Stockholm University and in third place Axel Fahlgren from the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, who both won internships and prize money.
- "It has been a truly educational and challenging day. The day has exceeded all expectations and it has been so much fun," says Liva Bihre, a student at Uppsala University.
This year's finalists were selected after a recruitment process involving tests and interviews. The 15 finalists study at the universities of Uppsala, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Linköping and Karlstad.

The finalists solved a tax law case
On the final day, the finalists gathered at EY's office in Stockholm where they worked in small groups to solve a tax law case with elements of both Swedish and international tax law. The groups then presented their solutions to a jury that selected the winner.
This year's jury consisted of Cesar Wahlbeck, Head of Group Tax, Handelsbanken and two tax partners at EY, Anna Berggren and Elisabeth Granhage. Important criteria for the jury's decision were tax law knowledge and analytical skills, leadership skills, co-operation skills, presentation skills and commercial skills.

Jury's motivation for winning
"Her outstanding expertise in tax law, her ability to transform complex regulations into easily understandable concepts, and her inspiring team spirit make her a clear winner. Furthermore, her ability to communicate her work in a reassuring and confident manner has impressed the jury. Without a doubt, Liva Bihre is the Young Tax Professional of the Year 2024, and she is ready to make an even bigger impact on the tax world."
