New Laboratory Inaugurated

On June 21st, Ångström's Laboratory for Additive Manufacturing, AM@Å, was inaugurated. Vice-rector Johan Tysk cut the ribbon in the presence of, among others, Erik Lewin, the director of AM@Å, Cecilia Persson, the leader of the competence center for additive manufacturing in life sciences (AM4Life) and also the chairperson of the steering group for AM@Å, and Anna Qvarnström, the Dean of Research.

Four persons in front of the laboratory.

The new laboratory will serve as a central hub for research and development in additive manufacturing and will be used in the education of new engineers and master's students. AM@Å gathers infrastructure and makes it available to research groups at Uppsala University, and external users are also in the pipeline. Together with U-PRINT at BMC, the laboratory forms the core of Uppsala's investment in additive manufacturing.

Looking ahead, the laboratory plans to further expand its equipment. This includes equipment for powder manufacturing, enabling the development and blending of new materials with specific properties. Additionally, the laboratory will acquire equipment for non-destructive analysis of the printed materials.
