Abstract: Symplectic geometry is an area of mathematics that originated from the geometric formulation of classical mechanics. Over time, it has revealed deep and surprising connections to other areas of mathematics and physics. This lecture will give a brief introduction to symplectic geometry, and include an unexpected relation between this subject and the familiar Fibonacci numbers.
