We are marking Pi Day (which falls on a Saturday this year) with short films and discussions on pi, mathematical beauty, creativity in mathematics and critical thinking. Whether you are a student, teacher, researcher, or simply curious about mathematics, you are warmly welcome. And of course, we will be serving pie.

Programme
The films are in English, but the discussions will be held in Swedish.
14:00 - 15:00 - Short film screenings on:
- π and the beauty of numbers
- Patterns in nature
- Benford’s Law – unexpected structures
- What is truth and “alternative facts”?
Between the films we will hold brief moderated discussions on:
- pi
- mathematical beauty
- creativity in mathematics
- critical thinking
15:00 - 15:30 - We will serve "Pi Fika".

Participants
Seidon Alsaody, award-winning Senior Lecturer, known for his pedagogical engagement and thoughtful reflections on mathematics and mathematical thinking.
Veronica Crispin Quinonez, Director of Studies for the Secondary Education Programme in Mathematics, with a strong interest in film and popular science.
The discussions will be moderated by the Department’s Communications Officer, Marie Chajara Svensson.
