Algebra Seminar: The decomposition group of a line in the real plane Cremona group

Abstract: The decomposition group Dec(L) of a line L is the subgroup of the plane Cremona group consisting of birational maps that preserve L. Over the complex numbers, it is known that this group, analogously to the plane Cremona group itself, is generated by its elements of degree at most two. We study the corresponding decomposition group over the real numbers and prove that, analogously to the real plane Cremona group, it is generated by its elements of degree at most five.
