Abstract: In this talk, we dicuss the joint project with Douglas Lundholm and Dinh-Thi Nguyen. We start with the topic of a generalized Liouville's equation and focus on some applications, beginning with the geometric problem of isothermal coordinates and moving to magnetic stability of anyons and Chern-Simons self-dual solitons. We will see how physicists have conjectured the solutions and what type of issues were in their arguments. Then, we move to a more rigid formulation of the problem and derive the precise mathematical result.
